Cranberry is native to eastern North America. This herb is an evergreen bush with dark green leathery leaves, bell shaped pink flowers and bright red berries. Part used is the fruit. The fruit juice is used to prevent the growth of bacteria E coli due to its acidic properties.
Cranberry is well known for protecting the urinary tract from infections and the prevention of kidney inflammation, mainly from kidney stones. Cranberry, used in conjunction with herbal supplements such as Uriflow, or CranActin can be effective in the treatment of kidney stones or other kidney problems. However, you must consult your doctor about using any combination of herbs since they can have a powerful affect on the body.
Cranberry by itself is safe but there have been reports of stomachaches when large amounts were consumed. I did not personally suffer this symptom though when I drank a lot of this juice for a kidney infection. Cranberry fruits can be found in culinary products such as jellies, desserts, dairy products, fruit juices, breakfast cereals and other food preparations such as food coloring. Cranberry is rich in vitamin C and is a traditional American dish for Thanskgiving.
