Commonly referred to as "Maidenhair Tree" This popular herb is cultivated in China, Japan, and Europe. It is also called the living fossil because it looks like animal fossils that have been recovered over time. In Japan the word "gin" means silver and "kyo" means Apricot.

Beneficial parts of the plant are the leaves and seeds. Ginkgo Biloba is known as a brain enhancer and is used for memory loss especially among the old aged. Its active agent is flavone glycosides ginkgolide. This agent improves blood circulation and helps with respiratory problems such as asthma, and colds. It also has some anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.

Side Effects

For safety reasons use Ginkgo Biloba sparingly. To much of this herb has been known to cause headaches, vomiting, diarrhea and inflammation of the skin with blisters or allergy like symptoms.
