& Use

Parts used are the leaves and oil. It is called the herb of wisdom and longevity. Its Latin name is salveo meaning "to heal." Sage is used to fight infections. Its high nutrition content helps to keep the body healthy and is used as an anti aging herb due to its antioxidant properties which are used to restore damaged tissue and cells.

It lowers blood sugar levels, relieves digestive cramps, and is used as a nasal decongestant and for sore throats in gargles. It is also used as a muscle relaxant during menstrual flow and prevents sweating during menopausal syndrome (hot flashes.) Research also shows that it can help boost memory. In 1597, herbalist John Gerald claimed this herb as “good for the nerves and memory.”

This botanical has uses in skin and hair care products. It is known to cure or relieve dandruff and helps restore hair color. In cosmetics it is used in after shaves and skin lotions but is not recommended for those with sensitive skin in some products. Also used as an insect repellant.

Its more common use is in culinary preparations and has a good amount of vitamin A and C. It can be used in many recipes and is best used fresh but be careful about the amount you use.
